Description
The Class 303, affectionally known as the Blue Train was familiar to west coast Scots spanning several generations until the late 1990s. These 3 car electric multiple unit trains were the commuter workhorses ferrying workers in and out of Glasgow for 40 years or more. As such, its squat looking cab and ticking over of the electric motors remained as much of the Scottish landscape as Irn Bru or any other fundamentally Scottish symbol. These EMUs were phased out in favor of more modern trains in the late 1990s and many have now been scrapped. As ever, one or two have been saved from the scrappers torch, including this one 303-032, which I found lurking in the shed at the Boness and Kinneil Railway on the banks of the Forth, central Scotland. Like any other everyday sight, we shrug our shoulders and care little for them when they are around, but it is nice to see one of these trains preserved like this.
