Description
What kind of New Orleans image gallery could be created without a nod in the direction of the grandeur embodied in the small details of the French Quarter? This particular image focuses on the distinctive and occasionally ornate street signs that hang just below those French Quarter lamps. They are an almost iconic sight in this part of town, often being the focal point of local souvenirs and gift items. This particular example was on Dorsiere Street, just a block or two along from Canal Street.
I added a texture to this image as I wanted to blend the surroundings into a less well defined image of the individual details of New Orleans. Thats how New Orleans defines itself as having a beauty and cultural value which is greater than the sum of its parts. By removing the clear definable details from an image like this, you tend to picture the sights and the sounds just as you yourself imagine them I think that it is why textured images work so well in such surroundings as the French Quarter in New Orleans.
This shot was taken during the hustle and the bustle of French Quarter Fest, when the sights and sounds of New Orleans can be at their loudest and grandest.
