Description
This image was taken from the deck of the now infamous Carnival Triumph cruise liner, as we slowly meandered down the Mississippi River after leaving the Port of New Orleans late in a January afternoon in 2011. This shot was taken at English Turn, near the Chalmette Battlefield. Such is the extent of the Port of New Orleans, we were actually still in the port, passing many grain carriers, when I took this shot; a full 40 minutes after pushing off from the downtown berth.
As we slowly made our way down the Birds Foot and the Gulf of Mexico ocean, this shot offered another interesting perspective of the Crescent City Bridge, particularly with the way the sun gently set just right above and to the side of the bridge. However, it was just one of many different perspectives of these twin structures that we got on this leg of the trip. Given the way the Mississippi River wraps itself around the Crescent City and Algiers, it appeared for a good hour or so, that we hadnt really travelled that far at all. Indeed, by this point on the cruise, we were actually as close to the berth (and the bridges) as we had been at almost any point on the cruise thus far!
