Description
One of the more productive weekends of shooting images for me in 2013 was spent at Galveston in late October. I would be up a mere 6 hours later to capture the sunset, but not before I was out ay close to midnight to try and capture a Gulf of Mexico night sky. I was really looking for star trails, or even a deep night sky shot. However, I have decided that the Galveston Seawall is not the best place for that. The incessant warm glow from the lights of the bars, hotel, and amusements lights up the sky in perpetuity, making it difficult to shoot such long exposures. Rather than give up, though, I decide to make the best of it and this (one of many) rock jetties made the perfect focal point for a black and white looking out into the Gulf of Mexico night. The array of cargo vessels at anchor out on the horizon (waiting to enter the Port of Houston) is kind of distracting, but this was as pleasing a night sky shot as I could have hoped to have taken on that night.
