The tight crop of this New Orleans French Quarter image, I think, serves to emphasize the interaction between the infinite number of tiny details that cumulatively define the character and history of the Vieux Carre in the Big Easy.
The French Quarter balcony�s have a character all of their own. However, you�ve got to consider it all. The bent over post, the crack ridden rough cast wall, etc. It is an immaculately preserved nod to the history of the French Quarter, and of Creole New Orleans itself. One can only begin to image that secrets that these walls, this boarded up window hold. What went one behind that door? What deal Colonial era deals were struck, what sordid goings-on went on; and what slaves were traded behind such closed doors.
