Description
The waters around the Sound of Mull and the Firth of Lorn make for some fantastic and picturesque landscapes. However, with Oban being the gateway to the islands, it is no great surprise to find that this is a heavily trafficked and very important waterway. At 150 ft deep, it can be a treacherous approach, which may not be evident when taking in the landscape from the shoreline. This marker, not sure if it is a tide gauge station, is just one of the many items of marine infrastructure required to keep the waters safe in this part of Scotland. 2015.
