Description
Ive stopped by this dam (Paterson Dam) in Yadkin Valley to photograph it many times. Sitting on the Yadkin River in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, the dam was overflowing with floodwaters after several days of sustained summer downfalls. I had to make my way through some very sticky mud to get into position to take this HDR image, but it was worth it. HDR can often be used to take flowing water effect images, but it is not always truly effective. It is possible to overdo this photographic effect, and this particular image was probably at the upper boundary of what I would be satisfied with such a method. The alternative would have been to use a ten stop filter, but in this instance I think the HDR effect worked well.
