This is a shot of the sunrise over the pier at Galveston Island, taken on a mid-fall Saturday morning. I had originally set this image up as an HDR shot, combining several exposures of the same shot to get one dramatic image. However, after review I wasn�t convinced. I liked the way the waves were set up and the touch of drama it added to the image, something that could easily be lost in the HDR process. The waves themselves were the result of a tropical storm far to the east along the gulf coast. The image actually depicts a surfer in the bottom left corner, so it was clear the waves were to be emphasized! Therefore, I decided to go with the processing of a single image, capturing all of the colour of the sunrise while placing the pier itself in a glorious and bold silhouette.
