Artist's Description

This image may be a somewhat unconventional composition, given that the silhouette of the tree is quite dominant in the image, but it is one that holds a lot of personal meaning for me.

For 5 years, I worked as a contractor to the US Army Corps of Engineers at the New Orleans District and, as such, I had the pleasure of taking lunch most days by on the banks of the Mississippi River, at this very spot. Indeed, even leaving the office on a winters evening was a pleasure, with sunsets such as this one a frequent occurrence. It was a rare occurrence, however, that I actually had my DSLR with me. On the night I did, I couldnt help take this image as something of a keepsake, given that I was due to move on from New Orleans a few months later. I have to say, I am still drawn to the colours of the sky in this image, which is why it has found its way into this Mississippi River image gallery.
