Description
As a Civil Engineer by day, I have to say that I was very much drawn the this Mississippi River Bridge Truss.
This is the Crescent City connection crosses the Mississippi River between downtown New Orleans (at Canal Street) and Old Algiers on the west bank. The crossing comprises two independent truss structure which have to accommodate a wide and tall river span in addition to extremely challenging geotechnical conditions.
However, it was the approaches to the main bride span that caught my eye most when I was walking beneath the structures in late 2007. During my training ay university I had many opportunities to design a bridge truss like this, but as it was always on paper I never really gained the kind of perspective that can only be gained from seeing the structure up close.
