Description
This is a panoramic shot of the Blue Ridge Parkway, as it gently snakes its way around the bottom of Grandfather Mountain and the Linn Cove Viaduct in north west North Carolina.
This shot was taken as the sun set on New Years Eve in 2013, when I would normally be parked in a pub somewhere getting ready for the bells. Instead, I was dropped off by my wife and told her to give me 25 minutes before coming to get me from a remote spot where parking was strictly forbidden. It was quite fulfilling to be stood up on the edge of the overlook, taking in the expansive skies of the Appalachian sunset, exposed to the elements and without transport. Thats one of the great aspects of photography: it forces you to get out into less than comfortable positions, demanding you absorb the splendor of our surroundings.
This Blue Ridge Parkway shot was taken with a Nikon D800, and 5 HDR images combined into a panoramic shot, from a total of 25 images. Processing this was a challenge, given the file sizes needed!
