Description
This is one reach of the Blue Ridge Mountains that I am most familiar with between Blowing Rock and Linville. This particular shot was taken near Price Park, looking out over Price Lake towards Grandfather Mountain. We quite often take this route when we drive our to Grandfather Mountain and I have only ever stopped at this overlook on a handful of occasions. On this particular day, though, the sun was setting with a nice warm glow on the mountain and with some lovely reflections in the water. It was just begging me to stop and take my time over the shot.
It was a very calm and serene scene, it was can be a very inhospitable environment when the weather turns. That, though, is what I like about the Blue Ridge Mountains, along this reach running through north west North Carolina. It doesnt generally take too long for the weather to change and, indeed, even the most unwelcoming of weather can produce fantastic photographic opportunities. I hope it wont be long until I take another casual drive along this very important Appalachian route, in the hope that the weather presents another fantastic scene to shoot.
This image was shot with a Nikon D300, in the fall of 2012. 5 images were processed to HDR in Photomatix, and with minor color corrections and spot removal in ACR and Photoshop PS5.
