Description
This is a view of a classic old yacht moored at Navy Pier in the Illinois city of Chicago. This image may looked like I have taken artistic license with the colour, but I can assure you that the Lake Michigan shoreline was actually this shade of green. It was taken not long after St Patricks day in 2008, and I was told that the river that flows through the city was actually dyed green for this popular Irish Festival.
Lake Michigan is one of North Americas Great Lakes. Contrary to popular belief, perhaps, this lake is actually connected to open water and ocean going vessels, with small-ish vessels making their way into the lake via the Saint Lawrence Seaway. I believe there is even a connection to the Mississippi River. Nevertheless, it is often perceived that the lake has not ocean connection, and although the lake is a truly vast body of water, I cant helping thinking that the vessels that ply their trade on Lake Michigan somehow must have a more inferior purpose. Of course, this is utter nonsense, as these vessels are certainly not the proverbial big fish in a big pond!
