Description
Just like many of my last round of New Orleans image, this Bourbon Street shot was one that I had wanted to take for such a long time, but had never actually taken the time do get it. I was particularly keen on getting a shot of the Hibernia Dome during Mardi Gras. However, Carneval had passed and I had to settle for a sunset image at the height of the tourist season in October 2011.
The vibrant and brilliant colours of Bourbon Street have been caught on camera countless times, but I wanted to get an image with a little different perspective. With this Bourbon Street image, I intended to photograph the noisy, extravagant, and tacky dcor of the French Quarter, set against a more dignified, serene, and historic background. Such opposite, but complementing, images are so typical of this city. It was a reminder of some great nights during Mardi Gras, but also of the more natural beauty of NAwlins, something that a sunset is perfect for.
