Description
Late in the summer of 2013, the family and I visited Edinburgh Zoo, and as we left I figured I had timed it just right to get to South Queensferry in time to get a sunset shot of this famous bridge. We got there a little early, and had decided to get some dinner at a waters edge pub in this fantastically quaint little town (a gem I didnt know existed until I left Scotland!) As the family finished up their strawberrys and cream, I wandered down on to the rock in my sketchers to find a rock formation that was interesting enough to act as a foreground to this famous 19th Century engineering marvel. The sunset wasnt particularly magnificent, but it did do just enough to light up the warm colours of the iron cantilever structure, although I did have to shoot off several dozen HDR exposures to be sure I had caght the best of the light. I eventually settled for this 7 shot exposure, and was happy enough with to publish it in both colour and black and white. It was an enjoyable experience photographing and editing the shots of this bridge, and it has certainly wetted my appetite enough that I want to come here and get a shot every time I make my way back to Scotland from Texas. I imagine that this bridge looks spectacular in any given lighting condition!
