Description
The San Luis Pass is a connector between the Gulf of Mexico and West Bay, lying between Galveston Island and Freeport, on the upper Texas coast. It differs from other such passes along the gulf coast, in the pass does at all allow (or need) passage of large ocean going tankers and bulk carriers. However, the San Luis Pass can still be a hazardous waterway, due to the dangerous currents that run beneath the bridge, which doesnt seem that obvious when you first see this idyllic looking part of Texas.
We had just had a great day out at a beach on Galveston Island, actually Jamaica Beach. However, but the main reason I made the journey from Houston on this May afternoon was to look for sights to get sunset images on the upper Texas coast. With some many quiet wetlands, there were bound to be many. However, as we drove across the bridge at San Luis Pas the beach at near West Bay looked really inviting, and it was just in time for a glorious sunset.
The beach at here had a very laid back gulf coast atmosphere, and I was shocked to find out that I could = actually drive our SUV all the way out to the waters edges, without kind of complaints. Although I didnt get very close, with their being so much private property nearby, there was an inviting looking timber groyne that was home to a group of Pelicans, right on the line to sight to this fabulous sunset. Theres really something about the sight of a silhouetted Pelican and the orange glow of the setting sun that is so inviting for the camera.
