Description
This is a shot of a frozen River Welland, in the English market town of Stamford, in southern Lincolnshire.
In December 2009, the entire United Kingdom experienced a snow storm of such epic proportions that the country, when viewed from space, was white from top of bottom, and earned the name the Big Freeze. The title was somewhat premature as the country was to experience similarly large snow storms in the following years.
However, we had the good fortune to visit Stamford during this snow storm (or just after) and it presented a picture perfect scene of a glorious white English country town, set against the medieval style architecture that makes this outpost on the A1 such a big draw for those that dont fancy urban life in the bigger cities.
It took this Stamford shot with a Nikon D300 and processed it in Photomatix (HDR software) and in Photoshop. I gave it yet more treatment using the Topaz Adjust software to bring out some of the fine detail in the tree; which looked magnificent in its golden brown winter colours, set against the snowfall of the quaint Stamford village scene.
