Description
The Standing Stones of Callanish actually pre-date those at Stonehenge by some 300 years, but they dont see to have generated the same legendary status as their English counterparts. Perhaps it is the remote nature of the stones here, calling the remote Outer Hebridean Isle of Lewis home. It matters not, I suppose, and it was certainly near the top of the list of places to visit when we toured these Scottish islands in 2011. We are actually on our way to our digs at the relatively nearby Aird Uig and stopped here close to sunset to take in the atmosphere of the stones. We seemed to get the fours season in the space of ten minutes, with torrents of rain and intermittent strong sunshine becoming a feature of the photographs that I took on this July evening.
