Description
This is a shot of the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, which has become on of the major attractions along Seawall Boulevard, in this south Texas resort on the Gulf of Mexico Coast. The pleasure pier is a relatively new structure, replacing the Flagship hotel that occupied this nearshore site following its destruction during the devastation of Hurricane Ike in 2008.
Its certainly a popular attraction and on any given summer Saturday night, the pier will be teeming with revelers paying hand over fist even just to get access to the pier. I have to admit, though, for all the over pricing of the pier puts me off it, it does make for a magnificent photographic subject.
This shot was taken just after sunset on a summer Friday night in 2013. I made may way down to the waterline on the beach and set up a number of different HDR shots. This was the best of the bunch. As a subject, the Galveston Pier is one that definitely benefits from a saturated colours and long exposures, as hopefully this image demonstrates!
