Artist's Description

Before getting deciding to shoot this railroad sunset shot, I had originally driven down from Houston to just north of Galveston Island to take advantage of the road adjacent to the Texas City wetlands and get a natural landscape shot. However, as I got there a little before sunset, I had time on my hands. This can be a dangerous thing for a photographer as it is very easy to get distracted by new ideas. That is exactly what happened to me in November 2013 when I parked up on the frontage road of the Interstate 45 freeway.
Instead of reading a book and waiting for the sunset, I took a drive down the frontage road and discovered that this single track railway line was a short muddy walk from my car. Being from the UK, walking along a railway line can be somewhat liberating as it is strictly forbidden there. So, being able to set up my camera on the sleepers and point the lens into the Galveston Bay sunset was too good an opportunity to let slip by.
