Artist's Description

This is a view of the footbridge crossing the Kenta Canal, part of the Barataria nature preserve in south east Louisiana. Part of the Jean Laffite National Park and being within an easy drive from New Orleans, the Barataria Preserve is a site that we visited many times during out 5 year stay in Louisiana. Usually we were out looking to photograph alligators and snakes, but this footbridge was just as deserving a subject as any other deep within this swamp / wetland. At the height of the summer, when the weeds flourished to the greatest degree, the river / canal system was actually a much better subject (as the gators stayed hidden under water). The dense trees and wetlands seemed to accentuate the clostraphobic feel created by the very humid conditions. It was just another example of how picturesque the Barataria Nature Preserve can be; at any time of year!
