Artist's Description

This is one of my favourite shots from my time in New Orleans. I took it at a time when I was beginning to experiment with long exposures and graduated filters. I choose this particular location as we would, perhaps twice a week, eat out in one of the restaurant along Magazine Street between Washington and Louisiana. The way the sun set on these fine looking old uptown buildings looked amazing, night after night, and I wanted to capture the bustling after dark nature of this vibrant part of town with my camera. This shot was taken with a Nikon D300 and a series of stacked graduated filters. This enabled me to really capture the colourful sunset in all of its glory while also getting the complimenting light trails from the passing cars. Compositionally it is a little unconventional for an image, but this image definitely served its primary purpose; to me give me a personal reminder of the atmosphere generated by eating out on the sidewalk on a hot and humid evening in uptown New O...
