This Abandoned Gas Pump image was actually an impusle shot that I took as we were turning the car around on River Road, running alonsgide the Mississippi River Levee at Destrehan, Louisiana.
As a foreigner living and travelling in the USA, I do take some delight every time I come across a real piece of America, and remote gas station will generally do the trick. The older and more run down the better, to be honest. However, I didn�t expect to find such a scene right on the doorstep of a large suburban population. Destrehen may not be quite part of Greater New Orleans, but I was surprised to find such a stark example of our economic woes so close to �home�.
What I liked about this scene was that it was crying out to be converted into a gritty textured scene. The storm looming overhead, the faded colours, and the old batterered coca cola scene seemed to suggest a bygone era.
