The view of an arrow straight American highway, cutting its lonely way through the desert, is enough to take the breath away of most observers. I am no different, and it has become a theme of many of my photographs. These can often represent something of a timeless scene, with few indicators of when or where the image may have been taken – an almost untouched slice of America in an ever changing world. This image, though, is a little different. The bedraggled nature of this asphalt highway, with the many scars of decades worth of maintenance does seem somewhat evocative of the post-Route 66 era – which is exactly what it is. This is between Seligman and Interstate 40 in Arizona. 2021
