Artist's Description

This is another shot that I have reworked in recent years, with some focused editing to narrow the depth of field. It was taken on the Isle of Mull (on the far side) on the drive back from a visit to Iona. The mountain in the background is Ben More, but clearly the subject of the image is the decaying boat, left to rot high and dry in the estuary beneath the mountains. Its a photographers delight to find such a relic, and one that is so accessible and begging to the photographed. The rotting wood, decaying paint work and incidental damage are perfect fodder for a more gritty type of image; almost like adding a natural texture to the image. In post processing I decided to isolate the boat from the background a little further, adding a bit more impact to the image, and really emphasizing the endless small details of the boat.
