Artist's Description

Sometimes a glorious sunset can catch you unprepared; as was the case with this image. We had just come off a boat after fishing in the bay at Port St. Joe and I didnt have my tripod with me. However, all was not lost and I was able to use my Nikon D300 hand held to get this shot. The pink rays of sunshine had been developing slowey over the previous half hour or so, but I didnt have any idea they would develop into this amazing sight. There was just enough in this beautifully lit sky to be able to use a short enough shutter speed to make the hand held image worth keeping. In hindsight, I shouldnt have been surprise that this kind of sunset would have made an appearance; Gulf of Mexico sunsets are generally very striking and this spot on the Florida panhandle was not different.
