Artist's Description

This tree at the centre of the lagoon in Audubon Park is another familiar sight for residents on Uptown New Orleans. When we lived there, between 2009 and 2010, the birds that roosted in the tree at sundown every night presented quite a breathtaking site. However, it seems we all took this for granted as this Rookery is no longer home to this flock of birds. I am no ornithologist or avian expert, so I can offer no explanation for their disappearance, nor can anyone else that I know in the area. I am glad, then, that I managed to get the shots of the Rookery that I did get. This one was taken in 2010, and I decided to manipulate the image and add a texture to the shot adding a more abstract feel to the image. I tend to add textures to an image to let the mind wander as you look at them high resolution detail tends to distract the imagination. I felt that this one was particular image which would benefit from such a process.
