Description
This is one of my favourite Blue Ridge Mountains shot; taken late in January 2011. It was shot from the side of the road along US Highway 321, just south of Blowing Rock, north west North Carolina. We had actually been driving home after an afternoon shooting in the mountains. I wasnt really sure I had got what I wanted and was a little bit despondent. However, the sun began to set beautifully, so we stopped and started to shoot. This image was shot at a focal length of 300mm. Its not the large expansive type of image you would expect to see in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but this was on purpose. I really wanted to focus on the layer after layer of the rolling hilltops, and long telephoto lens is just perfect for such a job. The added advantage was that I was able to capture some of the fine detail in the hilltop trees, and not to mention the pink sky.
