Description
I went to a lot of effort to get this Galveston Sunrise image. Getting up before dawn and leaving my family tucked up in a warm bed was the least of effort. Actually, having the staying power to remain in position on this rock jetty as the waves came crashing over it was a big deal. (The wave in this shot came crashing over my tripod and my ankles!) Also, sprinting along the beach when realized I wasnt quite in position to see the sunrise form a nice silhouette of the Galveston Historic Pleasure Pier just added to the fun.
All in all, I was very pleased with the way this image worked out, which was a close second to the actual satisfaction derived from actually getting out of bed at such an early hour to go hunting for this sunrise. I would guess that is a by product of having such a keen interest in photography: I force myself to get out of bed and put myself to see such wonderful sights that I wouldnt normally see if I wasnt trying to capture a photograph of it!
This image was processed with just a single exposure, rather than the 9 frames that shot on the day. I decided that an HDR process wouldnt do full justice to the rolling waves that were crashing on shore a result of a tropical system that was impacting a few hundred miles east in Louisiana.
