Description
Since moving to the US to Louisiana in 2007, I always fascinated by the seemingly endlessly long bridges that spanned the swamps of the State, and infact, most others across the Gulf Coast. New Orleans is accessible by ground elevation roads only from the Morgan City in the south; amazingly! All other accesses cross swamp, and lakes. This bridge is the Interstate 10 just west of the city, and is approximately 18 miles long. The Lake Pontchartrain bridge is 24 miles long! It seemed to me like an amazing, if not ballsy, feat of mankind to span such distances. Nevertheless, they did it and I have not become used to such lengthy crossings. Even so, this particular image is a favourite of mine, because of the calm reflections of the Bonnet Carre Spillway, if nothing else.
