Description
This is the Forth Bridge, Scotland. Built an amazing 125 years ago, the bridge spans the Firth of Forth estuary, just north of Edinburgh. This shot was taken from the South Queensferry side of the estuary, during a damp but amazingly clear December evening in 2014. I was intent on catching the effect of the floodlights, illuminating the impressive Victorian cantilevers, and I have to say that I was extremely satisfied with the results. I took this shot with a Nikon D800, using a 30 second exposure. I decided to go with the 70 mm focal length as I really wanted to accentuate the mighty nature of this amazing bridge. Repetitive patterns in such big structures taken with a very constraining lens can have powerful results. As such this was my favourite, and as is typical in such situations, it was the very last image I took before heading home that night.
