Description
This is a shot of the draw bridge that crosses the Harvey Canal in New Orleans. In fact, this shot was taken on the WestBank of the city (across the Mississippi River) and many occasional visitors will not be as familiar with this less well known (suburban) part of the city. I decided, in late 2011, to start taking photographs of the industrial areas that line the river of the Westbank, having largely ignored this part of town in the previous five years. This area does have quite a character to it in its own right, and I found plenty of fodder for long exposure and sunset shots. It would have been nice to have spent some more time on the Westbank, particularly along this stretch of the Mississippi River: the myriad of street level railroad crossings did offer some interesting photographic opportunities. This is one such example, and with the bridge in its upright position, I felt that it was ripe for a sunset / silhouette type of exposure. The shot was taken hand held with a Nikon D300 and then converted to HDR using Photomatix software. In truth, the HDR process was not all that necessary given that it was a silhouette.
