Description
Photographing downtown Houston can be a challenge sometimes, but the key is finding an interesting juxtaposition. In a city like Houston, which is so often characterized by the soulless nature of its towers and hugely extensive and clogged road networks, it is often very refreshing to see glimpses of nature peaking through the glistening glass tower blocks. Yes, for all of the millions of tonnes of concrete that grow from the streets of this south Texas powerhouse, there are actually a good number of trees to improve the view, even downtown. This is precisely what I was attempting to represent with this shot: a juxtaposition between the gleaming corporate skyscrapers and the easy to miss trees in the downtown area. This shot was taken with a Nikon D800, using a non-full frame lens. It was the framing issues which this causes which made me go after a shot like this. I think the weakness in my equipment can sometimes work out well.
