Description
I had my eye on this particular composition for a while. It was an interesting juxtaposition between the quaint and historic Marigny district and the commercial business district of New Orleans. The dog leg on Royal Street, adjacent to Touro and Frenchmen seemed to make this image work so well as a potential composition.
I have actually eaten in this Thai restaurant, and it provides that unique type of inconvenience that is so easily forgiven in this end of New Orleans. By this, I mean it was a Bring Your Own Beer place, which meant that there was a frequent walk next door to the vibrant bar to get take away drinks. Anywhere else, and this would have been a major drawback to dining here. However, there was such a temptation to waive such concerns, that it is clear why this place is so attractive.
When shooting this shot, I didnt get it all my own way. Just as I set up, a Budweiser Truck parked up in front of me and took a very long 45 minutes to offload its cargo. This wasnt too bad, though. I was able to stand in drink in the atmosphere, in a type of anthropological delight. Only in New Orleans can an inconvenience be so tolerable.
