Description
This is a shot that I took in September 2013, about 50 miles from downtown Houston. I took the drive out early to catch some sunset shots in and around the Brazos River near the small towns of Brookshire and Simonton. My main focal point was the railway bridge that crosses the river alongside the Interstate-10 highway.
However, as I was packing up I was advised to take a run down to Simonton. On the way, I drove down some dirt track, arrow straight, roads dissecting ranch after ranch. With such wide open spaces, and with the sun already dipping below the horizon, the twilight colors looked simply stunning set against the expansive Texas sky. I decided to stop and take some shots of the ramshackle old home one the edge of some farmland.
Although the colors were fantastic, I decided that this image would look so much better in a semi black and white format. I wanted to focus more on the expansive empty sky with wide open spaces being one of the attractive features of the eastern Texas landscape. It may not be remote, but it certainly seemed like a different world from the relatively nearby city of Houston. Hopefully I can get out and get some more of these shots!
