Description
It is likely more of a symptom of the street drainage problems that they have in N’Awlins, but the this kind of view, of a streetcar surging along a flooded neutral ground after the rain is, to me, an eye-catching and regular sight in the city.
I had lived in the Big Easy for a while before I realized that I should attempt to capture one of these images. It was the chance to get some nice reflections, and shoot the somewhat interesting sight of the flooded streets, that always grabbed my attention.
The only thing to do was wait for a storm, and be ready with my DSLR. In 2008, such an chance did present itself. Interestingly, though, it also gave me the opportunity to get another type of Streetcar shot that I find so enjoyable. Setting the tripod up, and using a 300mm long lens, allowed me to shoot straight on to an oncoming streetcar. In this case, it also allowed me to shoot the remaining segments of flooded neutral ground before the sun dried the floodwaters. This shot was taken on St Charles Avenue after a spring storm, at the intersection with Washington Avenue.
