Description
In all of the times I have visited the Blue Ridge Mountains, this was only my second opportunity to get to the top of Grandfather Mountain (North Carolina). All other visits had been thwarted by fog and thunderstorms, and this particular visit was about to be similarly affected. The ominous looking thunderstorm seen here over the North Carolina mountains was about to come rolling in over our position. Sitting right underneath the cloud cover, I had just enough to time to grab this shot before I had seek emergency cover in the car; a car which would quickly be rocked back and forth on the mountain top by the winds of a lightning storm. As scary an experience as that was, I do look back fondly and I am glad I managed to get this shot!
